What do you think about african americans with afros in 2011?

i am a 17 year old african american guy who has an afro, and i dont mean those weird kinky afros, i mean like a jackson 5/ huey freeman afro. i love my hair because i think it looks great. people look at me like im weird because im the only person in my school with an afro. my sister wants me to cut it before graduation and says "its not 1970 anymore" i ean afros take a while to grow and i got alot of hair products so i DO NOT want to cut it. there are 2 different types of people: the people who compliment my hair and others who ask if im gonna get it braided everytime they see me. im just wondering in general, what do you think about african americans having afros nowadays? do you like them? hate them? think they're outdated? what?
