How do you get medical help if your not insured?

So all my life i have not had any health insurance until i was 21, which is when i got my first real job. I lost that job a year ago and Ive not been able to find work yet. I'm starting to notice some health issues (Pain in my chest, and a rotting tooth) that i never took care of while i had the insurance to do it. I cant afford anything right now i don't have family to help me, I wont go to the Hospital because i don't have a way to pay for it what should i do? I'm 23 years old and I'm very self reliant i don't depend on anyone, how ever if i can barely pay my rent how can i pay for a hospital bill. Why is it that Citizens of the USA who seriously disadvantaged and cant even afford medical treatment are swept under rug?
