Will blow drying my hair keep it from shrinking?

right now my hair is braided but i will remove it sometime this week, it itches so bad, but my hair keeps shrinking when its out natural, my hair is thick, very thick, nigerian, use to the heat in africa thick, and here it shrinks, so if i blow dry my hair completely, after towel drying it keep it from shrinking later in the day
